A Sonnet for Christ the King
Our King is calling from the hungry furrows
Whilst we are cruising through the aisles of plenty,
Our hoardings screen us from the man of sorrows,
Our soundtracks drown his murmur: ‘I am thirsty’.
He stands in line to sign in as a stranger
And seek a welcome from the world he made,
We see him only as a threat, a danger,
He asks for clothes, we strip-search him instead.
And if he should fall sick then we take care
That he does not infect our private health,
We lock him in the prisons of our fear
Lest he unlock the prison of our wealth.
But still on Sunday we shall stand and sing
The praises of our hidden Lord and King.

BUCKINGHAM CHRISTMAS PROJECT: It’s time to share Christmas with 65 families and elderly in Buckingham County! There is a red board in the hall with names and gift suggestions. Choose a card and sign your name in the black book beside the name you have chosen. Gifts should be in the $35-$50 range, with a gift receipt included. Walmart is a good store choice due to accessibility for exchanges. Gift cards are a good option for teens and the elderly. Gift cards are also given to each family, so monetary donations for that purpose are welcomed. On Dec. 9, right after service, we will gather to have lunch and organize the gifts for delivery. You are asked to supply boxes. Wrapping paper, tape, tags will be provided so parents can wrap gifts. All gifts must be available by December 9. For any questions call Pat Rader 973-3831 or any member of MCW committee.
GREENING THE SANCTUARY Join us at 12pm on Saturday, Dec 1 to hang the greens in the Sanctuary! There will be holiday crafts for children and snacks!
HOLIDAY VISITS. We will be visiting, taking cards and a little gift to our elder members who are not able to come worship with us. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Aldersgate room if you would care to visit someone with us. If you can’t visit, maybe you’d like to send a Christmas card to someone on the list. Visits will occur after December 9.
SANCTUARY FUND. As you consider your end of year charitable donations, we know that there are many opportunities to be generous. Pastor Isaac asks that you consider a donation to the Sanctuary Fund. This money goes to help support Maria’s children in Guatemala. It helps pay her legal fees. These contributions are tax deductible. We all have an opportunity this holiday season to make a huge impact in the life of a
member of our church community.
