BEYOND DENIAL AND IN SEARCH OF GRACE
Congregational Conversations on the Issue of Race
Nearly thirty people gathered in the Aldersgate RoomSunday night to join the conversation. Together we watched portions of the film Cracking the Codesfollowed by lively discussion. We will be scheduling a time in the spring to watch the rest of the video. Those who were unable to attend this viewing will have the opportunity to do so at a later date.
Our next conversation will be on Sunday, November 13, 5-7 PM. We will hear from Sue Lewis and Peg O’Bryant on their experience of sitting on the Blue Ribbon Commission on Race, Memorials and Public Space. Plan to join us.
NAME YOUR SAINTS
November 6 is our All Saints Celebration. We would like to include in our bulletin that day a list of those who have died in the past year whose lives modeled faithfulness for you. Please call the church office or email them to Gina (office@wesleymumc.org), no later than Sunday, October 30.
STOP HUNGER NOW
MEAL PACKAGING EVENT
Saturday, November 5, 10 AM to Noon
Soy meal, dried vegetables, a vitamin sachet and rice make up these bags of meals that will serve at least six people. Filled with protein and necessary nutrients, these meals will be sent to school feeding programs. Because children are fed at school parents have the extra incentive to send their children, especially the daughters, to school.
Be sure to reserve your spot at the table. Sign up sheet is in the Aldersgate Room.

A PRAYER FOR YOUR WEEK
Walter Brueggemann
We make a pause amid many voices–
some innocent and some seductive,
some violent and some coercive,
some forgiven and genuine,
some not.
Amid this cacophony that pull us in many directions,
we have these old voices of your prophets;
these voices attest to
your fierce self,
your severe summons,
your generous promise,
your abiding presence.
Give us good ears, perchance you have a word for us tonight;
Give us grace and courage to listen,
to answer,
to care,
and to rejoice,
that we may be more fully your people.
The mission of Wesley Memorial Church is to be a vibrant, growing, mission-driven community of faith that engages the journey of faith intellectually and enables us to serve faithfully in the community and the world. |
